| Precision technologies are now well-integrated into the agricultural industry - both at the farm level and at the crop input dealer level. No longer are crop input dealers only using the technologies to bring new services to their customers, they are also utilizing the technology in their own businesses to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of their business operations. In early 2006, Crop Life magazine and Purdue University's Center for Food and Agricultural Business conducted a survey for the 11th consecutive year to assess the adoption of precision agriculture practices in the U.S. from the perspective of the retail crop input dealer. | This report evaluates the U.S. and world wheat markets for the 2006-2016 period using the Global Wheat Policy Simulation Model. This analysis is based on a series of assumptions about general economic conditions, agricultural policies, weather conditions, and technological change. Both the U.S. and world wheat economies are predicted to improve for the next nine years. World demand for both common and durum wheat are expected to remain strong, however, the current higher price levels in 2006 due to weather conditions will not be maintained as production is expected to return to normal levels in 2007. World trade volumes of both classes of wheat are expected to expand, but trade volume of durum wheat may grow faster than that of common wheat. |

| Land is a natural resource that is valued for many reasons. Farmers utilize land to earn their livelihood and as a store of wealth for future retirement. Potential rural residents have increasingly sought open space for a home site and pursuit of a lifestyle. Developers seek financial opportunities to invest in and develop it for non-farm uses. Recreational needs such as hunting are often met through use of land. For some, land is viewed as an investment and a hedge against inflation. This myriad of demands for land combined with its fixed supply continually alters its market price, which is a monetary measure of its perceived value. |

| Average net farm income was $322,165 in 2010 for the 97 farms included in this annual report of the Southwestern Minnesota Farm Business Management Association. Average earnings increased by 362% from $69,787 in 2009 (Figure 1). Inflations adjusted profits rebounded after a downturn in 2009 that was caused primarily by low profits in the livestock sectors. Strong yields, substantially higher crop inventory values, and rebounding profitability of the livestock sectors led the way to much higher profits in 2010. | The last few years have seen a proliferation of attempts by various institutions to create a framework that would enable analysts to have a broad overview of all transactions in the Malawian economy. A first attempt was made by Lodh and Chulu (1994) to construct a macro accounting framework using data from the National Statistical Office's 1990-1991 Household Expenditure and Small Scale Economic Activities Survey and the National Sample Survey of Agriculture complemented by other data sets such as the Government Budget Estimates, National Accounts and External Trade Statistics. | This paper documents the features of a 1998 social accounting matrix (SAM) for Thailand. It begins with a description of the overall economy both via a macro SAM and a national accounts balance sheet. The macro SAM was the result of aggregating a micro SAM; a mapping of the final micro SAM to the macro SAM is presented. The micro SAM was a modified version of a SAM obtained from the Thai Development Research Institute (TDRI). The paper describes the modification process in detail. The original dataset obtained from TDRI was a 'balanced' matrix. The converted SAM, after the modification, was still balanced. It was therefore unnecessary to apply any balancing procedure. | This paper synthesizes the strategies put forth at a 2020 workshop on Latin America held in Cali, Colombia, in March 1995, which looked at ways to eradicate extreme poverty, hunger, and malnutrition by 2020; to distribute income more equitably; and to protect natural resources and the environment. The workshop participants concluded that today's freer economic environment and reduced barriers to trade will help Latin America to achieve this vision, provided the region makes full use of its resources and promotes social objectives. A strong food and agricultural system is essential to reach these goals. |
